The Green Team

Chelsea Green

We're making a podcast. It's called The Green Team, it's me and my husband, and it's been coming for a very long time.

Anyone who has spent an evening with us knows this was inevitable. We are that couple. The one still at the table when everyone else has gone to bed, three hours deep into something neither of us will win. Faith, money, marriage, how to raise boys, whether we made the right call leaving — we talk about all of it, constantly, and we don't always agree. We're both obsessive podcast listeners too, so at some point the question stopped being should we and became why haven't we.

Why we left London

I loved London. I built a whole life there and a lot of this blog was written in it. But the last few years there felt different to us, and I want to be honest about why we went rather than pretend we simply fancied better weather.

It came down to two things: safety and what was left at the end of the month. We stopped feeling easy about where our boys were growing up. And we were working incredibly hard to hand most of it straight back in tax — you look at what you keep and you start asking what exactly you're building. Plenty of people we love are still there and still happy, and I'm not telling anyone else what to do. But for our family, the sums stopped adding up, and it was one of those decisions you circle for years and then make in about a week.

What we found

Dubai. And I'll say the obvious thing first, because people assume it's about the glamour: yes, obviously, the hotels and the brunches and the sunshine, I'm not going to pretend I don't love that part. You've read this blog. You know.

But the thing that actually changed us was feeling safe. I can be out with the boys late and not think about it. That sounds like a small thing until you've lived without it.

And what surprised me most — genuinely surprised me — is how it works here. It's safe for Christians. It's safe for Jews. It's safe for people who believe nothing at all. People of every background live side by side, get on with it, and are perfectly civil to each other. Having come from a place where everything felt like it was fracturing, that was a revelation, and it's a large part of why we stayed.

So what's the show?

All of it, honestly. Faith and how it actually works in a marriage rather than how it looks from outside. Raising children somewhere that isn't where you were raised. Money, and being straight about it. Marriage — the good and the parts nobody films.

And the bougie side, because that's us too. The restaurants, the hotels, the ridiculous things we love. I'm not going to sit here being solemn for an hour when half of my life is booking a table I can't pronounce.

Two people who love each other, don't always agree, and would rather talk it through properly than trade soundbites. That's the whole format.

When

The Green Team launches 1 December. Season one is us, plus some guests I'm genuinely excited about.

If you've been here since the CSG Lux days, you already know the version of me that posts the handbag. This is the other bit — the conversations that happen after the camera's off. I hope you'll come and listen.
