Hey Luxury Lovers! Simone Rocha showed at Alexandra Palace Theatre on Sunday 22 February — a Victorian theatre in the round, which she called “a bit of a pilgrimage”. Sixty looks, in three parts, and I had goosebumps.
The three chapters
Part one, Tír na nÓg, after the Jack B. Yeats painting and the Irish land of eternal youth. Part two, Pony Kid, after Perry Ogden’s photographs of Dublin children with their horses. Part three, Weird Sisters, for Elizabeth and Lily Yeats and their Cuala Press.

It opened on a white embroidered lace dress built from the image of a white pony, partly made from lace recycled from her own past collections, with ribbons streaming behind. That is the whole collection in one look: memory, craft and a bit of myth.
The clothes
Soft rounded volumes — chubby crinolines, Victorian panniers — next to tubular 1920s shapes laced with ribbon so they look as though they are coming apart. Centaur bustles, bridles, blinkers, leather garter belts and rosettes like prize ribbons. The finale she calls monster ballgowns: peat-green silk taffeta, enormous.

Then the collision: taffeta rugby shirts, track tops, leotards, bombers with the collars reduced to a gesture. “A feminine perspective on sportswear,” she said. Shoes were squared-off faux fur mules shaped like hooves, embroidered brogues and sneakerinas.
My verdict
This was also the first look at adidas Originals by Simone Rocha — cropped track tops, high-waisted pants, sneakerinas, the trefoil trimmed with pearls and bows. Put a reminder in your phone for that one.
